Kinja'd!!!

My Jeep introduced its oil and coolant today. This tips the scales to the point where I don’t have the time or spare money to keep it going anymore. It sucks because I put new brakes on it on friday. It was stopping so well! I put the Good pads on it too!

Needs head gaskets? Ring job? Might still be worth saving ....

That sucks. How much of a job is a head gasket on that engine?

I am guessing a cracked head. The gasket was replaced a year and a half ago, and this was abrupt which leads me to think a crack. Also the head is known to crack in one spot.

I did it a bit over a year ago, so I can say its not the worst thing in the world, but I don;t think it is the gasket this time for some reason. The head is known to crack in a particular spot, and something makes me think if I take it apart, I will find a crack there. Btw, this happened today after my other car decided not to start last friday. I overnighted(from japan?) some parts for it after the jeep died, but I will still miss work tomorrow.

Is it just oil getting into the coolant, or did coolant get into the oil as well?

If it only let some oil into the cooling system, I’d take the top off and find the problem. Sometimes a bad head or head-gasket can be fixed, and that’s the end of it.

But if coolant got into the crankcase, yeah, all bets are off. Water can flush oil from critical surfaces (like bearings) and severely accelerate the need for a rebuild.

oh, they got busy. There is intermixing like MLB after Jackie Robinson. I just don’t have time for it at this point. It has served me for many a year, but it is its time.

Inline 6? Perhaps a junkyard engine, or other swap? If the rest of it is in good shape, it might be worth saving.

Its not in super good shape, and at this point it is the time involved in fixing it that really kills it.

Get the same and use that one as a parts car?

Ouch. Yeah, a cracked head is a little bit of a problem.
